a poem

Shrine of the Black Madonna and Grottos in Eureka, Missouri

I bang my fists 

Against His bloody side

And at the same time 

Reach to kiss His cheek

Digging my fingers into His 

Hole hands. 

This is my most affectionate way.  

I'm at my best. 

At my worst, 

I turn away

And pretend He's not there.
