You laying hands on your phone is THE visual of the year so far. I will be thinking about that for a while. Also, I was talking to a friend yesterday and we were wondering if there's a way to hack second-half of life spirituality--in other words, getting to that "I NEED A LIFE!" epiphany you had, only before the age of 40. I couldn't think of a way. It seems like we need to not only get our asses kicked by life but that this needs to coincide with a heightened awareness of mortality, the beginning of irreversible physical decline...literally, the softening of our bellies no matter how long we hold our planks...and admitting that many of the best laid plans of our adulthood have failed...AND that many of those plans we hoped to lay are definitely not going to happen. When all that humiliation converges, and we cry uncle, then we're ready to begin. At least that's how it was for me. I just wish there was a book to read that could speed along the "falling upward" (to use Richard Rohr language) process.
Yeah.. if we could figure that out.. and bottle it... we'd rule the world for sure. Ha! But I think the bigger problem is that so many people never get to that place. And I'm not sure there's a gentle way of helping people there. Hmmmm...
